I woke up with a jolt and realised I was alone
Hit like a thunderbolt, that ringing telephone
She said “Baby I’m so sorry but I’ve left you
I’ve taken all your crap for long enough
I’m coming back to yours again this evening
To say goodbye and pick up all my stuff”
I don’t know what I said or did to hurt her
To make her think she had to disappear
And this is what I’d said to her, I really
Thought I had explained it all so clear
I said “This isn’t what it looks like my lover
Soon you’ll see that it’s a winning bet
I promise to repay you what I borrowed
Just haven’t had the time to do it yet”
“All these years we’ve been together honey
Please don’t let our romance turn to dust
I have to say I’m really disappointed
Somehow you just never learned to trust”
She said “I hope that you can get yourself a lawyer
You’re gonna have to pay for what you did
I’m taking the Ferrari and the puppy
You can take the mortgage and your kid”
I said “It wasn’t what it looked like my sweetie
Your sister said that she was feeling cold
So how was I supposed to make her happy
When she’s crying and she needs someone to hold?”
She said “I’m used to all your cheating and your drinking
It’s the bullshit and the lying I can’t stand
I found myself a job in a better part of town
And I’m gonna find myself a better man”
So I go back to my house on Monday evening
She’s packing up her stuff and moving out
I said “Come on darling, what d’you think you’re doing?”
She said “I’m packing up my stuff, and moving out”
“Exactly what it looks like baby
I’m packing up my stuff and moving out.”
